August 26, 2020, Public Forum with Elizabeth (Libby) Stuyt, MD
Elizabeth (Libby) Stuyt, MD an addiction psychiatrist, instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Colorado Springs Branch, and former Medical Director at the Circle Program at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo.
Libby's talk will present information to help you understand how today’s marijuana is not like the marijuana you may have used in the past. It will cover the effects of THC on the developing brain and how addiction happens – how addictive drugs work in the brain. Research on the effects of high potency THC and its role in addiction, depression, anxiety, suicide, psychosis, violence and cognitive impairment will be presented. There is a big difference between decriminalization and commercialization of marijuana, especially for our most vulnerable citizens (children, adolescents, young adults, persons with mental health or substance use disorders).
