About the Event

Join us for the Alliance for Addiction Solutions Monthly educational forum, featuring Susi Hately.

About the Forum:

When a loved one is battling addiction, their supporters—partners, parents, friends—often give everything they have to help. But who supports the supporters? In this talk, Susi Hately, yoga therapist, teacher trainer, and founder of Functional Synergy, shares insights on how yoga and functional movement can serve as essential tools for those carrying the emotional weight of a loved one's recovery journey.

Drawing from her personal experience supporting her stepson through addiction, Susi explores how to navigate the complexities of compassion, boundaries, and self-care while being a steady presence for someone in crisis. She will share practical, body-centered techniques to manage stress, cultivate resilience, and shift from burnout to balance.

Attendees will learn:

  • Practical tools for supporters – Yoga, functional movement, and mindfulness strategies to reduce stress, maintain emotional well-being, and avoid compassion fatigue.

  • Understanding addiction through the lens of yoga – How to approach addiction with compassion while releasing guilt and self-blame.

  • Building resilience – Ways to sustain one’s own health while being a source of strength for a loved one.

With decades of experience and thousands of people helped through her Functional Synergy programs, Susi brings a warm, relatable, and action-oriented approach to healing. This talk is for anyone navigating the challenging role of being a supporter, offering tangible ways to care for themselves while holding space for someone they love.
