Genes are not our destiny, but they are our tendency when we are under stress. In this forum, we will be exploring the genetic roots of addiction and how we can influence these genes to express in healthier ways that liberate us from addiction. We will discuss how to make the best decisions in your healthcare, lifestyle, and dietary choices when working to overcome addiction and achieve a sustainable, long-term recovery.

Jennifer Bruce, an FNLP (Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner), considers addiction to be one of life’s greatest gifts because it provides an opportunity for the experiencer to grow into the best version of themselves and  live a life that is rich and deeply meaningful. Jen's personal journey through 18 years of addiction, chronic health issues and almost nine years in recovery has provided her with the insight, compassion and experience needed to understand what it takes to overcome the seemingly impossible.

Jen uses a three tiered approach to addiction recovery, addressing the mind, body and spirit. Jen dives deeply into the use of functional nutrition and lifestyle medicine as the foundation for healing her clients from the inside out. Her modalities range from therapeutic nutritional protocols, lab testing, transformational recovery coaching, yoga and meditation, as well as referrals from a wide range of resources to meet her clients’ individual needs. Each recovery journey is client driven and is as unique as their finger print.

Jen has sought out the best instruction in the world in everything she believes to be essential for quality recovery and holds advanced certifications in functional medicine nutrition, nutrition for addiction and mental health, therapeutic culinary arts and recipe development, transformational recovery coaching, as well as ongoing yogic studies in Rishikesh, India. In addition to Jennifer’s professional certifications, she has deep experience and knowledge of 12 step recovery for those clients wishing to integrate a new or existing 12 step program into their holistic recovery plan. Jen recognizes the whole recovery spectrum, and works with clients who are in pre-sobriety, early recovery as well as long term recovery, addressing the different challenges commonly experienced at different stages of recovery.

Over the years, through one-on-one and group settings, Jen has had the opportunity to serve hundreds of people who’s life’s have been effected by addiction and other traumatic experiences.

Jen is the mother of one young daughter and lives on the redwood coast of northern California. She enjoys yoga, cooking, working, learning and going on adventures in far away lands.
